As a society, we’re at a point where we can conclusively determine how marijuana affects the human body. Lawmakers in the USA were slow on the uptake in the past decade, but they’re now coming around.
Cannabis is being accepted as a legitimate recreational drug, much like alcohol, by most of the developed world today. Millions and millions are being injected into research on this plant. We’ve already gleaned tons of benign uses for the plant – mainly from the CBD present in it.
But it seems that sports authorities are still rooted in antiquated laws and principles with regards to cannabis use. Instead of viewing it in the same fashion as alcohol and cigarettes, USADA and WADA are still operating based on Reagan-era perception of the substance.
Dwyane Wade puts USADA officials on blast for banning Sha’Carri Richardson from the Olympics
Dwyane Wade has never been one to hold back on issues plaguing professional sports. His POV on this ban comes from first-hand knowledge of professional sportspersons’ bodies and how they respond to marijuana.
Wade took shots at the powers that be, who’re still propping up a framework of rules that views marijuana as badly as synthetic drugs like heroin and cocaine with 2 tweets
But majority of y’all rule makers smoke and probably are investors in THC companies. Let’s stop playing these games https://t.co/hT3H6kw45T

In a world where people are literally making millions upon millions growing and selling it! Y’all ever heard of a fine? https://t.co/F3nfvJxVES

The universal condemnation of USADA and WADA’s rules with regards to marijuana usage from the entire sporting community gives hope to fans that there will be a change in the status quo.
However, as things stand, Sha’Carri will be missing out on her 100m Olympics dream. The fact that she was probably just using weed as a coping mechanism in response to her biological mother’s death should not be lost on anyone.
Sha’Carri is human, and so is everyone using weed.
