Sure, since the arrival of Ja Morant, the Memphis Grizzlies have been one of the most improved teams. A team that was lottery-bound for a few years post the Mike Conley & Marc Gasol-era, managed to make the playoffs in back-to-back campaigns.

They have even transformed into a powerhouse in today’s league. Currently sitting 2nd in the West with a 24-13 record, Taylor Jenkins’ boys are one of the deadliest teams in the entire association.
However, calling them the best team in the Western Conference will not be appropriate. This is exactly why the basketball fraternity criticized Morant for his infamous interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews this past month.

Draymond Green reacts to Morant’s “fine in the West” comments
A few weeks back, the 2022 Most Improved Player stated that the Grizzlies would have no obstacle in the West.
Malika Andrews: “Who do you look at around the league as you’re studying and say, ‘We’re gonna have to run through them?'”
Ja Morant: “Celtics”
MA: “No one in the West.”
Ja: “Nah. I’m fine in the West.” #NBATwitter pic.twitter.com/dh4e5lF1AE

Many basketball enthusiasts, analysts, and competitors gave their opinions on Ja’s comments. Like a majority of others, Draymond Green also didn’t agree with what the youngster had to say.
In a recent episode of The Draymond Green Show, the former DPOY lauded the 6-foot-2 electric guard. However, Dray also explained why he didn’t agree with Morant’s words:
“A lot of love and respect for Ja. Young leader that makes his guys believe whatever he believes. And that’s a very powerful thing as a leader. He got that. Have had it since day 1, you can see it. Very noticeable since the time he stepped foot in Memphis.
I’m not sure he can quite make his guys believe that one, which is ‘I’m fine in the West’. You are fine, Ja, you are. But the Warriors in the West, champ. So yes, you are fine, Ja. The Grizzlies on the other hand… that’s a topic for another day.”

Ja Morant playing like an MVP
It is no surprise that the 2020 Rookie of the Year has been the best player for the Tennessee-based franchise.
Averaging a staggering 27.1 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists, Ja is ranked 8th in the recent-most MVP Ladder.

While he might not be the frontrunner to win the MVP honor, Ja is certainly deserving of an All-Star and All-NBA nod.
