Joe Montana would rank almost last in 2020 NFL quarterback stats

Joe Montana recently shook the NFL world after claiming Dan Marino to be the best QB ever, putting him above Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. In a similar way, the 49ers legend tried to shake the real estate market in 2019 after trimming the price of his California mansion and listing it for $29,000,000.

The NFL legend has made $25.5 million in total career earnings as a superstar quarterback which is worth up to $53 million today. However, the four-time Super Bowl champion knows well how to future-proof his money through some good investments but one might argue whether his Napa Valley mansion is one of them or not.

Joe Montana Asked $29,000,000 For His California Mansion

Joe Montana the 80s sporting icon who led the Niners to multiple Super Bowls, asked around $29,000,000 for his Napa Valley mansion in 2019. The stunning 9,700-square-foot villa which sits on a 500-acre property is an absolute Tuscan-style beauty. The villa is a 20-mile ride from Calistoga. It is a project that was custom-built by the Montana family, and hence was known as ‘Villa Montana.’

The mansion took five years to finish and was completed by 2003. It is a true Mediterranean-style edifice inspired by the architectural marvels of Italy and France. The estate comprises the main house, a guesthouse, stables, and a wine cellar that can hold up to 3,500 bottles at a time.

“They wanted the house to have the authentic feel of an Italian villa,” said Avram Goldman, the listing agent. “It looks like they took a home from Italy, picked it up with a big helicopter, and set it down here.” The house is certainly a beauty to behold as, with all the European beauty on the inside, the estate also accommodates a large swimming pool, basketball/tennis court, bocce-ball terrace, and a skeet shooting range.

Montana Had to Trim the Listing Price Multiple Times

Despite the mansion being a pride of the Montanas, the NFL legend finds it hard to find a buyer at the desired price. He has been trying for more than 14 years to get the property off the market while also making good money from it. But as of 2023, there have been no reported buyers of the estate.

Montana first listed the property in 2009 for an ambitious $49 million. However, the NFL legend and his wife Jennifer took it off the market after their four kids wanted it to be their home for a few more years. 10 years later, Montana re-listed their home, this time with a massive 40 percent markdown which got no response. Hoping to find a buyer, Montana further trimmed down the listing price in 2021 to $24.5 million, which still remains the asking price of the mansion which is awaiting a potential buyer.
