With the NFL draft just days away, the footballing community is excited beyond comprehension. While many talk about the favorites such as Bryce Young and Anthony Richardson, there are a few who are hoping to fly under the radar and make the cut. One such player is Cam Smith, South Carolina Gamecocks’ cornerback. Though it seems, he is not as far under the radar as many think.

Smith is a native of South Carolina and has been playing football since high school. The 6’1″ cornerback has been a vital part of the Gamecocks’ defensive team and is one of the top defensive prospects in this year’s draft. Added to that, he even had a good showing at the Combine this year, which seems like it made an impact on the team scouts and owners.
Cam Smith is projected to be a first-round pick this season
The South Carolina star made a name for himself in the SEC with his ability to track down and stop wide receivers. In the three years he played for the Gamecocks, he defended 23 passes, and made six interceptions as well. Added to that, he completed the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds and recorded 11’2″ on the broad jump. Though he skipped the bench press, his strength is not being called into question at all.
It seems his stats and his abilities have really made an impression on the teams. In fact, the standing theory is that Smith could very well be a late first-round or early second-round pick. What is sure, is that Smith will be wearing an NFL team uniform this season. The question that remains then is which team does he want to join?
Smith may be secretly hoping that he gets picked by the Dolphins
Cam Smith visited a few teams ahead of this year’s draft and has managed to keep most of them a secret. However, his visit to the Miami Dolphins facility is no longer under wraps, and for good reason. It seems he was blown away after watching Jalen Ramsey and Xavien Howards in action. Apparently, they inspired Smith as he grew up playing in the CB position.
“It was kind of surreal. But I don’t want to be starstruck because I will either be with them or against them,” Smith said about watching Ramsey and Howard. It looks like he has already settled into the mindset of an NFL player. The Dolphins don’t have a first-round pick, though. Which means it is likely that he will be facing his heroes on the field. Question is, who will he be playing for?
