Former Patriot Jakobi Meyers Has Only Love for Tom Brady & His Former Team Even After “Cold Hearted” Move by New England

Former Patriots receiver Jakobi Meyers recently signed with the Raiders for a 3-year, $33 million deal. However, what brought his name into the spotlight was his response to the Patriots signing JuJu Smith-Schuster to the same deal, just a day later. While one would have expected Meyers to start trash-talking the Patriots for such a “cold” move, he has nothing but praise for the people who brought him to where he is.

Jakobi Meyers went undrafted in the 2019 draft, post which the patriots picked him up. He spent 4 years with the Patriots and even had a chance to play with the legendary Tom Brady. He had a pretty impressive run with the Patriots, which is probably why he was hurt when the team decided to let him go. However, he still sees them as the ones who saved his career.

Jakobi Meyers talks about his time as an undrafted rookie with the Patriots

Meyers appeared on ‘The Rich Eisen Show’ to talk about his feelings during the 2019 draft. Meyers describes the entire affair as a “tough experience”, saying it was heartbreaking as the days went by and there was no news. He also said that he was grateful to the Patriots who gave him a chance even though he was an undrafted player.

When asked about his experience meeting Tom Brady, Meyers had quite a few good words to say. “Honestly, that was kind of a cool moment. It wasn’t really a full conversation, but I remember my first time seeing him. He came into the locker room, and he knew he knew all the guys’ names. I mean, I was an undrafted guy, when we had all types of players on that team that year.”

“I mean, we had Demaryius Thomas, Julian Edelman. So, just for him to know the undrafted players’ names, he knew all of our names and he showed love to us. So I definitely appreciate him for that,” he said. It seems even with the rather awkward parting with the team, he is still in love with New England. Or maybe he just appreciates TB12’s humble nature. Either way, maybe he is eyeing a return in the future.

Meyers has an impressive stat to back up a great few years with the Raiders

Las Vegas is undoubtedly on a run to dethrone its division rivals and current Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. In a bid to put up an offense that has some chance of doing so, they have managed to bag Jimmy Garoppolo and Jakobi Meyers to their roster. With Davante Adams already a part of their receiver corps, the Raiders’ offense will be one to watch for this season.

As for the Patriots, they will be hoping that their starting QB Mac Jones improves his performance significantly. The arrival of JuJu Smith-Schuster will no doubt give the Patriots’ offense a boost. However, if jones does not step up, they might not be in a position to contend for the division title this season. Will New England get back to winning ways anytime soon?
