Later on, the league wire made the deal official. The Panthers released Mayfield on Monday in the middle of his rookie campaign in Carolina. Mayfield was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

It comes after the quarterback struggled with the Panthers, falling to third-string quarterback behind Sam Darnold and PJ Walker before being asked to be released so he could compete for a starting spot elsewhere.
In order to compete for a Super Bowl this season, the Niners, who currently have seventh-round rookie Brock Purdy as their starter, are in need of a quarterback. Veteran Josh Johnson was signed from the Denver Broncos practise squad on Sunday.
On Tuesday night, Mayfield is scheduled to depart for Los Angeles, where he might make his franchise debut this coming week. Mayfield might play when Sean McVay’s struggling Rams take on the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday Night Football.

Colin Cowherd Reacts To Baker Mayfield Going To The Rams
Despite his struggles over the last 24 months, Mayfield has proven to be a capable starting quarterback who could thrive in Sean McVay’s offence. The former Oklahoma Sooner has always been an accurate passer and should be at ease getting the ball out quickly, as McVay bases his offence on.
Cowherd, on his podcast, The Volume, reacted to this situation by saying that Bake Mayfield is not mature enough to handle this situation, which is why, despite winning a playoff game, management bailed on him because he is too immature and not ready.
Colin believes that Baker joining the Rams would be a disaster for the already-injured team. He also stated that this is why he is tough on Baker, because the player’s first team is the one who falls in love with them, and Baker was not just dumped by Cleveland because he was unable to play, but also because he was too immature.
