The current lot of quarterbacks in the NFL is nothing short of exceptional. There are just so many talented stars who are capable of single-handedly winning games for their units. Which is why, ranking the top 5 currently active QBs can be a tricky thing to do. Recently, Texans rookie C.J Stroud gave his list of top signal callers in which he included Justin Fields, but ignored the likes of Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson.

As one can expect, fans on Twitter went ballistic after going through Stroud’s picks. While he had included stars like Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, Joe Burrow and Josh Allen, his final pick ended up getting most of the attention. Stroud named Bears QB Justin Fields as the fifth best QB, before giving sort of an honorable mention to Lamar Jackson.
C.J Stroud names Justin Fields in his Top 5 QB list, while snubbing Lamar Jackson & Aaron Rodgers
C.J Stroud had a brief chat with the host of Caps Off podcast a few days ago where he was asked to instantly name his top 5 quarterbacks. Without thinking too much, C.J named Jalen Hurts as the top QB, while giving the second spot to current Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes.
This also ended up triggering a few fans but a lot of them actually went ballistic when C.J named Justin Fields as the final QB on the list, after putting Joe Burrow on third and Josh Allen on the fourth spot. However, one must note that instantly after naming his top 5, C.J stated, “It’s hard, bruh. There’s a lot of dogs out there, so I respect everybody.”
Innumerable fans went crazy as soon as the video of C.J’s list went viral. Many football lovers were appalled by the fact that Aaron Rodgers, who has won league MVP honors on 4 occasions, couldn’t make the list, while Justin Fields, who has played for two seasons thus far, got the fifth spot. “Imagine thinking Justin Fields is Better Than Lamar Jackson or Aaron Rodgers,” one fan wrote.
😭😭😭 imagine thinking Justin Feilds is better than Lamar or Arron rogers 😂😂😂

The fact that he put Justin Fields at #5 make this all irrelevant

Fields shouldn’t be in anyone’s top 5 let alone Top 10 😂 if he makes a jump during the season then we have a different story

Listing anybody over Mahomes is always silly. He’s not just the best of his time, but has a very good chance at ending up the best of all time. He’s been the best ever for a QB at every career stage so far, so it’s not hyperbole. Tier of his own.

C.J Stroud models his game around Joe Burrow
Stroud named Jalen Hurts even before Patrick Mahomes while listing his top signal-callers. However, he went on to admit that Bengals QB Joe Burrow is his favorite. “Burrow is probably one of my favorites. I model my game to Burrow a lot,” he stated, before adding that he loves all these QBs who have done well at the highest level.
Named Graham-George Offensive Player of the Year in 2021 and 2022, Stroud was one of the top prospects at the 2023 NFL draft. As expected, he was roped in second overall by the Houston Texans who had a horrid season last time around. While it is always tough for rookies to earn major accolades while playing for units that have struggled in recent years, it also presents them with an opportunity to grab a starting job quite quickly.
It’s a double-edged sword and while C.J has got what it takes to make it big, he would be under the pump right from the get go.
