1. Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals could definitely use K.J Wright. He would be an instant upgrade for the defense which has to face the Ravens, Browns and Steelers twice a year.
Facing these explosive offenses, Wright should be overall able to tighten the Bengals defense. Being an active member on the field, he’ll play a key role in stopping the run game and strive in zone coverage schemes coming off from the heavy 4-3 base defense of the Seahawks.
2. Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs linebacker core isn’t the strongest in the league, but adding Wright would definitely improve the defense. Even though they recently drafted Nick Bolton with the 58th overall pick, Wright would instantly be one of the most knowledgeable players on defense.
In addition, not only would Bolton and the linebacker core learn from him, but the Chiefs are true contenders as a team, which is exactly who Wright wants to play for.
The Chiefs can also afford to offer a 1-year deal in the $7 million range which Wright would probably accept.
3. New York Jets
The Jets would be a solid fit for the veteran linebacker. Wright could act as a perfect mentor for a young Jets defense and provide some much-needed experience.
While Wright isn’t as impactful in pass coverage as his younger days, he was a fantastic run-stopping linebacker. Recording a combined 86 tackles and 2 sacks last season, he’ll be a definite upgrade for the Jets defense.
4. Seattle Seahawks
Head Coach Pete Carroll recently claimed the doors are still open for a potential return. However, the Seahawks are set for 2020 first-round pick Jordyn Brooks to take on the starting role.
Moreover, Bobby Wagner who was ranked as the best linebacker in the NFL recently (as per PFF) will still continue to excel. Bringing back Wright will provide some security at the position if anything goes wrong, but Brooks looked solid in his limited playing time last year.
5. Los Angeles Chargers
Wright would blend perfectly with a talented Chargers defense and help take it to the next level. With Joey Bosa up front rushing the passer and Derwin James behind in tight coverage, Wright would create the perfect balance for the defense.
The Chargers pass-rush is already one of the best in the league, and with the contribution of Wright, they can automatically improve in stopping the run game as well. He can play a key role in being a flexible linebacker.
