Patrick Mahomes Takes a Page from Trevor Lawrence's Book to Appreciate His Teammates

Patrick Mahomes is a big advocate for women’s sports, helping fund a $135 million stadium for the NWSL team the Kansas City Current, teamed up with Trevor Lawrence in an Adidas advertisement promoting women’s soccer. The commercial was a funny skit about the various “football” sports of the world, with Mahomes pressing American Football, but the ultimate message of the ad was to stand behind the American Women’s Football team which takes place this year.

The Chiefs quarterback is a big player in sports outside of the NFL. Not only is he a co-owner for the Kansas City Current, he also has ownership in the Kansas City Royals, the city’s MLB team worth around $1.2 billion. Mahomes clearly wants to form a base in Kansas City, and he wants to do it in the best way possible with sports. He’s also making important contriobutions when it comes to women’s sports as showcased by his involvement with the K.C. Current.

Patrick Mahomes and Trevor Lawrence star in epic Adidas commercial

The Women’s World Cup is all set to take place this year, starting July 20th and ending by August 20th. This edition of the World Cup is set in New Zealand and will mark the ninth edition of the games.

The United States are by far the most successful team in Women’s Soccer history. Of the eight previous editions, the US team has won the world cup four times. They have won the world cup the last two times as well in 2015 and 2019, with the previous two wins coming in 1991 and 1999.

In the most recent Adidas commercial, Patrick Mahomes, Trevor Lawrence, Donovan Mitchell, Candace Parker and more launched a promotion for the women’s soccer team as they prepare for the upcoming games.

They argued over who the greatest “football” player was with Mahomes being shocked that was even a question, with the skit then going on about football vs fútbol vs football.  Trevor Lawrence questioned why basketball players were in the commercial and also advocated for the fútbol side of things. It’s confusing, but it makes more sense when you watch the video.

Mahomes has made revolutionary contributions to women’s soccer

While the sport of soccer is so big and the US women’s team is so successful, there is still a long way to go in terms of the treatment of women athletes compared to male athletes.

Mahomes himself has done extensive work to help in this regard. With the K.C. Current, Mahomes helped fund a project that brought in a $120 million stadium and $15 million training facility (for a total of $135 million), as per ESPN, that could help revolutionize women’s sports.

That kind of funding is unprecedented for a women’s club, but it could help kickstart a new wave of athletes showing support for female sports. The new stadium and facility are the crown jewels of the NWSL, and they will serve as a model of how high female sports can fly with the right support.
