“They Want You To Be Buttoned Up Like Nick Saban”: Shannon Sharpe Disapproves Media's Narrative About Deion Sanders, Who is Running a Different Route

Shannon Sharpe just revealed how much he believes in Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffs. After facing intense criticism for leaving Jackson State, Coach Prime recently silenced all his haters by helping Colorado in securing a historic debut win. As it turns out, the win also gave Shannon Sharpe a chance to addresses the ‘negative’ media narrative around Sanders that has been building up for quite some time.

During his latest appearance with Stephen A Smith on ESPN’s ‘First Take’, Sharpe disapproved of how the media wants Deion to be a buttoned-up coach like Nick Saban and Kirby Smart, even when Coach Prime has a style of his own. Deion’s unconventional coaching style has actually breathed new life into the Buffaloes. This was pretty evident during their upset win over last year’s National Championship runner-ups, TCU.

Shannon Sharpe Appreciates Deion Sanders for Being Different

On ESPN’s ‘First Take’, Shannon extended his support towards Deion Sanders and the unique approach he is taking while coaching the Colorado Buffaloes. Sharpe claimed that Sanders has a very unorthodox coaching style. It contrasts with the traditional approaches of coaches like Nick Saban and Kirby Smart. Sharing his opinion with Stephen A Smith, Sharpe said,

“What scared a lot of people away is what you just saw. That’s who he is. They want to be buttoned up like coach [Nick] Saban, they want you to be Kirby Smart. He is not a typical coach. He is gonna give you a catchphrase. He’s gonna say, do you believe? I believe.”

The words by Shannon Sharpe echoed the sentiment that Sanders’ unconventional methods, particularly including his roster changes and his unshakable belief in his team, have been met with skepticism from certain quarters. He emphasized that the coaching style of the NFL icon is characterized by his authenticity and willingness to break away from the norm.

Innumerable football fans were quick in dismissing Sanders ever since he was appointed the coach of the Colorado Buffaloes. When he arrived at the Buffs, he immediately announced that he’d be using the new rules to revamp the team roster. This was also met with widespread criticism. However, with his latest performance against TCU, Deion Sanders has certainly generated fear and apprehension among those who prefer a more conventional approach in the world of college football coaching.

Deion Sanders is Intelligently Using Social Media to Hype Up Colorado

Sanders is making waves in the college football world with his innovative approach to coaching which led to an amazing win in their season opener against TCU. The unconventional tactics by Sanders included printing social media handles on players practice jerseys instead of their names.

He hoped that this would demonstrate his commitment to helping his team leverage Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities. This move is a strategic one. Sanders was hoping to emphasize the importance of players’ digital presence in the modern sporting landscape.

Sanders also tried to instill discipline and a strong sense of identity in his players. By focusing on “D” and “L” on the game day jerseys that signify “Dawgs” and “Leaders,” he’s trying to nurture a culture of responsibility and leadership within the team. It is safe to say that the approach by Deion Sanders to shape a new era in college football is challenging the status quo.
