The Brazilian midfielder was absent from training during the pre-season tour at the United States.

Real Madrid have started to welcome a few of their remaining players from vacation. The Whites are currently in the United States on pre-season. Having lost their first match 2-1 against Manchester United in Miami, they now head on to Washington D.C. to take on Juventus.

In last week’s training sessions, Julen Lopetegui was able to welcome Sergio Ramos who returned from vacation after the World Cup in Russia.

Brazil international Casemiro has also begun training in Madrid at the Real Madrid City in Valdebebas today. The defensive midfielder was working on an individual fitness drill along with fitness coach Javier Mallo.

Casemiro’s return today was an expected affair but there is no sign of Marcelo at Real Madrid’s training camp, in Spain or US. The left back’s absence has yet again given rise to rumours regarding his future in Madrid.

The 30 year old was linked with a move to Juventus after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure. However, lack of activity regarding Alex Sandro’s led to the rumours being boiled down.

Yet, his absence from training could signal something fishy. While he was expected to return to training this week, only Varane, Kovacic and Modric were given the permission to join in next Sunday following their involvement in the World Cup finals.

Marcelo’s absence has raised doubts about his future with the club, but there are two sides to the coin. While the Brazilian could actually be in talks with a move to Turin, which has low probability, there is also a chance of him getting extended leave.

This was because he had featured across more minutes than Casemiro and also his seniority in the club.

Nonetheless, he could be back training by next Sunday at the most. Julen Lopetegui wants a fully fit and present squad for Real’s Madrid curtain raising Super Cup clash against Atletico Madrid in Estonia on the 15th of August.
