NVIDIA DLSS 2.0: A way for RTX gamers to get a MAJOR boost in frames?

DLSS stands for Deep Learning Super Sampling and it was released by Nvidia for 20 series cards in 2018. This technology, however, is only available for RTX GPUs.

With the release of the 30 series RTX graphic cards, DLSS 2.0 is also available for a bunch of major and upcoming gaming titles. Some of the are Watch Dogs: Legion, CyberPunk 2077 and COD Black Ops – Cold War to name a few.

What does DLSS do?

DLSS is an AI which constructs super sharp and higher resolution images from fewer rendered pixels. This technology allows gamers to maximize their ray tracing settings and increase the output resolutions. The fewer pixels needed to render allows the GPU to process more frames and leads to more frames on your screen.

How is DLSS 2.0 better than DLSS?

  • DLSS 2.0 allows for image quality comparable to the native quality at which the game was made while using only a quarter of the pixels needed.
  • A new AI technology in DLSS 2.0 lets the tensor cores inside the GPUs to give an output twice as fast than DLSS.
  • DLSS 2.0 uses non-game specific content to train itself. Hence, it delivers a generalized network that works across multiple games.
  • DLSS 2.0 provides customizable image quality modes: Quality, Balanced, Performance- that control the game’s internal rendering resolution. The highest setting mode-Performance-can upgrade 1080p images to 4k quality images. This means that it can upscale up to 4 times from the initial resolution.

What titles are already available with DLSS 2.0?

Gaming titles such as Deliver us the Moon; Wolfenstein: Youngblood; MechWarrior 5:  Mercenaries; Control are already available with DLSS 2.0. Other games include Minecraft and Fortnite as well.
