The WWE removed all mentions of the match from its website and social media without offering an explanation. They then tried to spin in into a story with NXT Correspondent McKenzie Mitchell tweeting:

“Just saw @RealKingRegal walk into a closed door meeting with @WWENXT medical personnel. As soon as I get an update on what the meeting was, I’ll report back.”

NXT General manager William Regal then explained that Thatcher had suffered a minor injury rendering him unavailable tonight. He promised that the match had been postponed not cancelled and it would take place as soon as Thatcher heals.

Fans were excited to see the match type return. There has only been one Fight Pit match in NXT before. Thatcher took on Matt Riddle last year in May with Kurt Angle as the guest referee.

Here’s what the rest of the card for tonight looks like:

  • NXT Champion Finn Balor defends against Kyle O’Reilly
  • Karrion Kross vs. Damian Priest
  • Last Woman Standing match: Rhea Ripley vs. Raquel Gonzalez
  • NXT Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar defends against Gran Metalik
  • Xia Li and Boa return
