Oelschlagel's save vs Werder Bremen

Oelschlagel’s save vs Werder Bremen: Borussia Dortmund crashed out of the German Cup on penalties to Werder Bremen.

Werder Bremen became the first team to beat Borussia Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion this season, as they defeated the home side on penalties.

After a dramatic finish to the game at the end of the customary 120 minutes, which saw four goals in the thirty minutes of extra-time, Werder Bremen broke the Dortmund hearts with a 4-2 win on the shootout.

Borussia Dortmund dominated the possession throughout the game but failed to create enough chances, as Werder Bremen held their nerve to go through to the next round.

Dortmund’s goalkeeper, Eric Oelschlagel, however, made an incredible save in the 90th minute to deny Werder a certain winner and take the game to the extra time.

Werder Bremen were awarded a free-kick in the 89th minute of the match and Oelschlagel denied Max Kruse a certain winner.

Kruse’s kick took a massive deflection and Oelschlagel, who was prepared to dive to his left reacted quickly to change his position and extended his right hand to muscle the ball above the goal.

Even when Dortmund eventually lost the game in the end, the Twitterati didn’t fail to notice the incredible save made by their keeper.

What next?

Borussia Dortmund are currently at the top of the Bundesliga. The side is seven points ahead of the second-placed Borussia Monchengladbach, who are tied with Bayern Munich on points.

Bayern have had an underwhelming season in the league so far as they faced a stunning 3-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen last weekend.

Dortmund will take on Hoffenheim in the league this week before travelling to London to face Tottenham in the first leg of the round-of-16 of the Champions League.
