Marcus Rashford injury update

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives an update on Marcus Rashford who played through an injury against Liverpool.

Manchester United did well to prevent Liverpool from scoring as the game ended in a stalemate. Jurgen Klopp was furious with his player’s on the touchline and did not want to bash out his players in the post-match interviews.

Even though both the sides drew the game, they will be content about picking up one point after seeing injuries piling up during this tame encounter. During the first half, Manchester United’s midfielder Ander Herrera picked up a hamstring injury which forced him to leave the field.

Juan Mata was nursing with an injury and he was forced to be substituted five minutes later his compatriot Ander Herrera left the field. Jesse Lingard, who was a doubt for this game was told to be included. But, injury recurrence meant that the English International would not be able to carry on further. Alexis Sanchez was the third player to come on in the first half.

Marcus Rashford’s ankle was giving him trouble throughout the game after facing an early challenge from Jordan Henderson, but he was forced to play through the whole game when the Red Devils ran out of options.

On the other hand, Liverpool were forced to withdraw Roberto Firmino who twisted his ankle while he was in action on Sunday. Daniel Sturridge was the player to replace the Brazilian.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted that Marcus Rashford should have been substituted, but he ran out of options and made him stay for 90 minutes. The English International is unlikely to feature in the Wednesday night clash against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

“I have never seen the like of this before,’ said Solskjaer. ‘Three hamstrings in the first half, Rashy was kicked, did his ankle straight away and we should have taken him off as well.”

“There were quite a few fouls on him [Rashford] and normally you’d take him off after five minutes. His ankle blew up and he wanted to run it off. Then Juan and Ander came off, so I hope he’s not damaged himself too much.”

“I’ve not seen him after the game. If he plays [on Wednesday] I’ll maybe be surprised. I was very impressed by my team; the attitude and character we showed in adversity. Everything that could’ve gone wrong in the first half went wrong.” said Solskjaer.

Marcus Rashford, Ander Herrera, and Juan Mata look to be missing out for the Wednesday night football, with Antonio Valencia, Nemanja Matic, and Matteo Darmian already sidelined and remained out.

Anthony Martial may return from the groin strain which he suffered against Paris Saint-Germain.
