On this Day: Watch Virat Kohli registers T20I masterclass vs Australia during ICC World Twenty20 2016

Virat Kohli registers T20I masterclass vs Australia: The then Indian vice-captain had registered his 15th T20I half-century in a match-winning effort.

During the 31st match of the ICC World Twenty20 2016 between India and Australia in Mohali, the then India vice-captain Virat Kohli’s 15th T20I half-century had propelled India to a 6-wicket victory.

Coming in to bat at No. 3 in the fourth over of a 161-run chase, Kohli ended up scoring 82* (51) with the help of nine fours and two sixes to win the match for India in the last over.

Requiring 59 runs in the last five overs with Kohli and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on strike, India made a daunting task look simple as Kohli scored 45* (19) from this point in time to leave the Australian bowlers clueless.

Needing 39 runs in the last three overs, Kohli took the onus on himself by scoring two fours and a six off Australia all-rounder James Faulkner. To make matters worse for the opposition, Kohli smashes four fours off Nathan Coulter-Nile in the following to bring down the equation to India needing four runs in the last over.

Kohli not needing much assistance from Dhoni in sealing such a chase spoke highly about his knock. With India losing their group match against New Zealand, their last group match was a must-win encounter for them.

Despite the others not contributing at a pace they should ideally have, Kohli made it a point to carry India to the semi-finals of the tournament.
