After a hiatus of nearly four years, Blizzard announced a roadmap for an Overwatch World Cup 2023. Blizzard seems to be ready for some Overwatch 2 action in the coming year as the competitive scene of the game recovers from a rough patch due to the onset of the pandemic.
Overwatch 2 is continuing to gain a large number of players despite the bugs and glitches that the game faces.

The whole event will be divided into three stages that will further be divided into more stages for a smooth year-long run. Stage 1 will begin in January 2023 with the announcement of 36 participating regions and countries.
Blizzard will have a set guideline on the basis of which they will announce the countries. This will be followed by regional trials in February. Confirmed slots will be given after the trials.
In March, competition committees will hold tryouts, after which, the 36 teams will be divided into six groups. From there, the Top 16 will compete against each other in the LAN event. This will be the last stage to filter out the top eight teams.
Can non-pro players compete in Overwatch 2 World Cup 2023?
While who can or can not take part in the World Cup hasn’t been announced, it is highly likely that players will get selected from the Overwatch League. Details are yet to be shared by Blizzard.
There could also be a lot of in-game events, including Twitch drops and other challenges at every stage of the tournament. Currently, Blizzard is yet to announce the 36 teams that will be a part of the competition.
Despite the lack of details, players can look forward to a new champion after a wait of nearly four years.
