Paul Pogba contract situation

Paul Pogba contract situation: The Manchester United midfielder was speculated to leave Old Trafford under Mourinho.

Manchester United have been impressive under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer so far. The side is yet to drop points in the Premier League in six games under his charge and will take on Arsenal in the fourth round of the FA Cup later this week.

Paul Pogba has been brilliant for United since the Norwegian’s arrival, as he has scored five goals and assisted four in the last six games.

The midfielder also scored against Brighton and Hove Albion in the game last weekend after winning the penalty.

However, his contract situation has remained an issue for the club, as there were heavy speculations on Pogba’s reluctance to sign a new deal just yet.

Paul Pogba contract situation:

Various reports during the summer and beyond stated that Paul Pogba could leave the club, following a fall-out in the relationship with the-then manager Jose Mourinho.

His former club Juventus and Real Madrid were heavily linked with a move for the French World Cup winner.

Barcelona were also reported to make a bid for Pogba, which included Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes in addition to 45 million pounds. However, Manchester United rejected the bid.

The rumours continued to flow after the summer as incidents of public altercation increased between Mourinho and Pogba. The situation worsened after the duo was caught arguing during a training session after a defeat to Derby County in the Carabao Cup.

Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola remained keen to get his client away from Old Trafford throughout the first half of the season.

However, Pogba decided to stay put and has been brilliant under Solskjaer so far.

And now, Manchester Evening News (via Sun) reports that Paul Pogba has made a ‘u-turn’ to stay at Old Trafford and is ready to begin the talks over a new contract with the club.

The midfielder’s current deal with Manchester United expires in 2021, and the report suggested that Pogba would want around 500,000 pounds per week in his new contract at the club.

What next?

Scott McTominay signed a new contract with the club until 2023 earlier this week, with an option to extend for a further year.

Earlier, it was reported that Anthony Martial is close to agreeing on a new deal with the club. However, players like David De Gea, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera are yet to put pen to paper on a new contract.
