Arsenal’s star forward, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has just started the team’s pre-season in thumping fashion. The former Dortmund man has set a new club record in the pre-season fitness tests, leaving a huge impression on new manager, Unai Emery. The 29-year-old was joined only by a few of his team-mates who could not make the trip to Russia for the World Cup.

It would have undoubtedly been disheartening for players to stay back at home during the summer instead of playing World Cup football in Russia this summer. However, this little break also offers a chance for players to regroup after a long season, and make a fresh and relaxed return to work.

There are footballers for whom physical excellence comes naturally and Aubameyang fits perfectly in this category. The Gabon international is currently one of the fastest players in the world, and has shown his excellence by setting a new club record on his first day back.

London Colney hosted the team’s first session, where every player was assessed to see how their bodies performed after the season break. One such test was that of the one-legged triple jump, which tests a player’s physical prowess.

The Gabon international was marked at an astonishing 7.97m, shown in the video uploaded to Arsenal’s Youtube channel. Upon the end of his test, an off-screen voice confirmed that the 29-year-old score was actually a new record at the club, as Aubameyang celebrated the feat with a fist pump.

This would also impress coach Unai Emery, who will be looking to turn around Arsenal’s Premier League luck and contest for the title this upcoming season.
