Player gets emotional during the celebration after losing his father three hours prior to kick-off.
Sacramento Republic is a second-tier United States outfit plying their trade in the USL Championship – Eastern Conference. They took on Rio Grande Valley FC Toros on Monday.
Sacramento’s striker Dariusz Formella was informed about his father’s death three hours prior to the kick-off. The Polish striker didn’t want to share his father’s demise with the staff or teammates and engaged in this encounter.
He was initially on the bench before getting brought on in the second half. When the midfielder played a nice defence-splitting pass to him, Formella didn’t take too much time to slot the ball behind the back of the net.
His celebration was very emotional as he went down to the ground and the tears were on the verge of bursting out. He kept within himself and when one of his teammates came near him, he divulged his father’s death to him.
His teammate was spotted asking, “Are you okay?”
In reply, he shook his head and his teammate hugged him once more. He also pointed out to the sky and disclosed his father is watching Formella play at a high level from the sky.
Darek Formella was informed that his father passed away three hours before kickoff. He kept the news to himself and played anyway.
In the 81st minute, he scored the winning goal for @SacRepublicFC. His reaction speaks for itself ✊

It was a heartbreaking moment for the striker, who chose to play despite his father’s demise. There are no many athletes would sacrifice in this way amidst a huge loss in their family.
Sacramento Republic found the winner in the second half, but the result doesn’t matter because of his mammoth commitment.
