Post Timo Werner signing, 3 players Chelsea should target this summer

Post Timo Werner signing 3 players Chelsea should target this summer to bolster their squad to challenge for the Premier League.

Under the management of Frank Lampard, Chelsea is set to gain certain reinforcements which could help the Blues challenge for the Premier League next season.

It has already been reported that Chelsea is set to land Timo Werner from the Premier League, whereas Ben Chilwell has also been targeted by the West London based club.

But still with two major signings in the view, Chelsea needs certain reinforcements to bring in the right balance to the squad, in order to challenge for the Premier League.

Presently, Chelsea needs to find suitable players for the position of goalkeeper, centre-back and left-back and with Chilwell being an expensive option, we name three players who can fit perfectly at Chelsea.

Therefore, the Sportsrush names three players that Chelsea should sign to reinforce the squad ahead of the next season.

1. Andre Onana

Chelsea signed the most expensive goalkeeper in the world in 2018 – Kepa Arrizabalaga, however, he hasn’t managed to be under the good graces of Lampard and also had rifts with former manager Maurizio Sarri.

The extent was that he was even replaced by Willy Caballero after he failed to perform up to the mark, even though he managed to regain his position in the squad, Lampard still reportedly wants to replace him.

Many are linking Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana with the Blues, whose worth is around £35 million, according to the Evening Standard, and considering if Chelsea manages to sell Kepa this summer, they can finance the deal for Onana.

Onana has been highly rated by many clubs, his displays for Ajax during their run to last season’s Champions League semi-finals saw him nominated for Goalkeeper of the Year at the 2019 Fifa Ballon d’Or awards.

2. Nathan Ake

Post Timo Werner

There’s no doubt over the capabilities of Nathan Ake, the Dutch International is presently one of the most highest-rated players in the Premier League.

Much to the convenience of Chelsea, the club has a buyback clause over the player when Bournemouth took him from the Blues on a permanent transfer in 2017.

Since then the 25-year-old centre-back has managed to mark his worth and he could be a crucial addition to Chelsea. The West London club has struggled in defence this season.

Only Antonio Rudiger is considered one of the best defenders in the squad and rest haven’t been up to the mark, even Fikayo Tomori, who had a good start this season, eventually gave underwhelming performances.

Thus, Ake is one of the options for Chelsea in the markets, and considering the buyback clause gives them an advantage over other clubs who have been interested in the Dutch International.

3. Nicolas Tagliafico

Post Timo Werner

Considering the price set by Leicester City for Ben Chilwell, Nicolas Tagliafico should be on the radar for Chelsea. He has been one of the highly-rated left-backs in the world.

He is definitely a cheaper alternative ahead of Chilwell for whom Leicester City are not ready to accept a penny less. Therefore, Tagaliafico suits the requirement in much less money.

However, age is an important aspect, which is on the side of Chilwell and considering he is proven in the Premier League, he certainly has an edge over the Argentine.

But considering the current financial situation of the market, Tagaliafico is one of the best options for Chelsea and the Blues should invest in him.
