Rahane and Shaw to play Vijay Hazare Trophy

Rahane and Shaw to play Vijay Hazare Trophy: Two India batsmen are set to join their state side for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

India Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and opening batsman Prithvi Shaw will join the Mumbai squad ahead of their semi-final match of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy against Hyderabad at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, on this Wednesday, i.e., October 17.

Both the batsmen were part of the Indian team which routed Windies 2-0 in the recently concluded Test series. Shaw, who made his debut at Rajkot, ended up being adjourned as the ‘Man of the Series’. The 18-year old opener had scored 237 runs in two matches at an average of 118.50 and a strike rate of 94.04.

On the other hand, Rahane had scored 121 runs in two matches at an average of 60.50 and a strike rate of 44.

Earlier, both the batsmen had opened for Mumbai before the Test series had started. In the three matches that they played, Shaw scored 287 runs at an average of 95.66 and a strike rate of 143.50, whereas Rahane had scored 230 run at an average of 115 and a strike rate of 83.03.

Rahane and Shaw’s presence will undoubtedly bolster Mumbai’s chances in the big match. There are reports of India limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma also featuring in the match, something which has created a lot of conundrum for the ODI team were scheduled to report at Hyderabad tomorrow.

If Sharma plays the Semi final, he will become part of a monumental Top four comprising of himself, Shaw, Rahane and Shreyas Iyer.

Mumbai were unbeaten during their eight league matches, topping Group A with 28 points. Their Quarter final match against Bihar proved to be a cakewalk as they bundled out the opposition for a meagre 69.
