Dravid warns Indian team regarding 2019 Cricket World Cup

Dravid warns Indian team regarding 2019 Cricket World Cup: Former Indian captain wants the Indian team to not take things lightly.

Former India captain Rahul Dravid believes that India losing the ODI series 2-3 against Australia at home will do the team a lot of good. The 46-year old opined that the defeat will remind the Indian players that they will have to play really well during the world event.

“I think there was a bit of notion that we are going walk there and win the World Cup easily. So it’s a good thing that has happened. What it [outcome against Australia] has has reminded us is that we have to play the World Cup very, very well,” Dravid was quoted saying by India Today.

India had gone through a similar dip in form before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. The Men in Blue had failed to reach the final of the tri-series against Australia and England in Australia. However, their unbeaten streak in the world event was stopped only in the semi-finals.

“It’s going to be competitive”

Notwithstanding that India have been in stellar form in the build-up to the tournament, Dravid went on to say that the journey for the team will be tough and competitive. However, the current India A and India U-19 Coach claimed India to be the favourites for the world event.

“India has performed well in the last couple of years. There was a little bit of talk that we are almost going to walk in there and win the World Cup very easily because we are the No. 1 team and we have been dominating one-day cricket for the last couple of years.

“But I don’t find anything strange, from my perspective, watching the series. I still feel that we are going to be one of the favourites. But it’s going to be tough. It’s going to be competitive,” Dravid added.
