The Afghanistan Cricket Team’s success story in the limited over format of the game is one which has inspired millions of people all around the globe.Their arduous journey to become one of the top 10 teams in World Cricket is an unbelievable ‘believe it or not’ story, to say the least.
And what we witnessed just a few minutes ago in Bristol, is too nothing short of an unbelievable individual brilliance in terms of six hitting ability displayed by the Afghanistan all-rounder- Rashid Khan, who is particularly known for his bowling in the Cricketing fraternity.
Rashid Khan- The batsman
Known particularly for his brilliance with the ball in hand, Rashid Khan today went berserk with the bat against Australia at the County Ground in Bristol. It all happened during the 36th over of the Afghanistan innings. In the final delivery of the over being bowled by the Aussie all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, Rashid Khan hit an unbelievable six off a short delivery bowled at him.
Since Stoinis is not the quickest medium pacers in World Cricket, it was almost a bread and butter shot for the 20-year old, as he stood tall to the one banged at the turf and clobbered it deep into the stands over the square leg region.
Before hitting the six, he had also plummeted Stoinis for a couple of fours and a six in the same over. Thus, he smashed a total of 21 runs in the over. Although he had also hit a six in the second delivery as well, this one would have put the top order of any team in the world to shame.
What this short cameo from Rashid also did, was extend the Afghan total to a respectable 207 in the 50 overs. Earlier, after winning the toss, the Aussie skipper Aaron Finch decided to field first, a decision which was proved right by the speedsters in their team, as both the openers got dismissed within the first two overs of the innings.
Useful contributions from Rahmat Shah (43 off 60), Najibullah Zadran (51 off 49) and Rashid Khan (27 off 11) helped the total reach the 200 mark. From the Australian side, pacer Pat Cummins and leg-spinner Adam Zampa picked 3 wickets each in what was a decent effort from Australia with the ball.
