Ravi Ashwin trade: KXIP to trade Ashwin for Trent Boult and Jagadeesh Suchith with Delhi Capitals before IPL 2020 auction, say reports

Ravi Ashwin trade: The news of Kings XI Punjab’s captain getting traded ahead of IPL 2020 auction is doing the rounds once again.

Kings XI Punjab captain Ravichandran Ashwin’s name has once again started to do the rounds with respect to him getting traded with another Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals. It all started more than two months ago when DC had expressed interest in Ashwin for IPL 2020.

Since then, there have been multiple reports regarding the matter. After Punjab appointed former India captain Anil Kumble as their Head Coach for the upcoming season, it was believed that Ashwin would remain with the franchise.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, KXIP co-owner Ness Wadia had even went on to disclose reasons why Ashwin was retained by the franchise.

“The [KXIP)] Board had a rethink and it realised that [Ravichandran] Ashwin is an integral part of the team. There were discussions with Delhi Capitals but those discussions never came to fruition. The way he plays his cricket and his performances speak for him,” Wadia had said.

Having said that, in what has come as an interesting development, the recent reports suggest that Kings XI are once again considering the option of trading Ashwin.

If reports in India Today are to be believed, Capitals are likely to announce the development soon. “Yes, it [Ashwin’s trade] is done and we will announce soon,” a source in the know how of the development was quoted as saying.

If another report in Mumbai Mirror is to be believed, Delhi Capitals have agreed to trade New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult and domestic all-rounder Jagadeesha Suchith for Ashwin.

Boult, who has played for Kolkata Knight Riders and SunRisers Hyderabad apart from DC after making his IPL debut in 2015, played only five matches in the last season. Suchith, who was brought in as pacer Harshal Patel’s replacement last season, played only one match in IPL 2019.
