Real Madrid faced issues in their right-back position, where a lack of depth in the position led to Los Blancos dropping points once Carvajal suffered injury.
Real Madrid have shown interest in signing Alvaro Odriozola from Real Sociedad. The Los Blancos face a lack of depth in the right-back position, which led to Real chasing Odriozola. The Spanish defender is a transfer target for many big clubs in Europe, including Manchester United and FC Barcelona.
Spanish website MARCA reports that Real Madrid had agreed a move in principle for Alvario Odriozola for several months. According to the report, Odriozola had a release clause of €40m.
The right-back is in the world cup squad for Spain this year. He could even start for Spain if Dani Carvajal doesn’t recover in time.
Odriozola is a versatile defender, and is a lethal attacker on the wings as well. He has been a first-team regular for Real Sociedad this season, and earned his first international call-up last year.
However, Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay denied any claims of Real Madrid’s approach for the player. “Up until now nobody has called and so we are not going to talk about hypothetical situations,” Aperribay said.
Aperribay was speaking at the press conference, which was meant to present the new Real Sociedad coach Asier Garitano.

“Real Madrid have not called us and so we will not talk about what has not happened and no one has said will happen. If they call us then we will speak but they haven’t called,” the president added.
Odriozola is a youth product of Real Sociedad, and appeared in 41 games this season for the Spanish club. If Real Madrid does acquire the Spanish defender, Achraf Hakimi could definitely be on his way out of the club.
