Luka Modric to win Ballon d’Or: According to reports from Spain, the Croat is set to win his first Ballon d’Or award.

Luka Modric won the FIFA Best player of the year this year, beating Cristiano Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann to the award. The midfielder played a key role in Real Madrid’s Champions League triumph, and led Croatia to their first ever World Cup final this summer.

The reports in Spain now suggest that the player is set to complete the pair with winning the Ballon d’Or.

Modric was reportedly nominated along with Kylian Mbappe and Raphael Varane, but the report suggests that the player has beaten Ronaldo and Griezmann for the title.

Luka Modric to win Ballon d’Or:

The Croatian midfielder will reportedly win his first Ballon d’Or title on December 3, according to Onda Cero.

The midfielder developed a great chemistry with Cristiano Ronaldo in a successful 2017/18 season at Real Madrid. The Los Blancos won their third successive Champions League title in the season.

However, things have only gone downward for Real Madrid since as the departures of Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo have had a significant impact in the side’s form.

Onda Cero also reports that the Portuguese forward will join Modric along with Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann on the podium.

Earlier, Cristiano Ronaldo stated that he deserved to win his sixth Ballon d’Or trophy. “I’ve said many times that winning a sixth Ballon d’Or isn’t an obsession, but of course I want to win my sixth Ballon d’Or,” Ronaldo said.

“I’d be lying if I said otherwise. I’m working for it as I work to score goals and win games without making it an obsession. I think I deserve the Ballon d’Or, yes.”
