Real Madrid Sign Theo Hernandez For A Six Year Deal

Real Madrid have officially opened their summer transfer window, singing Theo Hernandez from Atletico Madrid for an estimated fee of around €26M as reported by Marca.

The French International spent last season on loan at Deportivo Alaves, establishing himself as one of the first names on their team sheet. He has gone to become one of the best defenders in the league.

Theo has proved to be one of the more attacking full-backs, quick and good on the ball whipping in crosses. Having made 38 appearances last season, he has managed to bag 4 assists.

The 19-year old joined he Vincente Calderon at the age of 11, rising through the ranks for Athletico Madrid along with his brother, Lucas Hernandez.

Unlike his brother who wants to stay at Athleti, it is reported that he rejected multiple contract extensions and offers from other European clubs for Real Madrid. He has never made a senior appearance for Athleti.

Madrid sent Fabio Coentrao on loan to Monaco, which left Marcelo as the only established left back at the club last season.

This prompted the signing of the youngster, who will now compete against and mature alongside the best left back in the world. Coentrao has been sent on a season-long loan to Sporting Lisbon, which makes Theo the number 2 for the position.

A statement read: “Real Madrid C.F. and Atlético de Madrid have agreed the transfer of the player Theo Hernández, who will be contracted to the club for the next six seasons.”

He is set to be unveiled in the whites on July 10. An excellent piece of business by the Los Blancos. This signing increases their squad depth with Zidane looking to do the Trio of UEFA CLs this season.

It will also help rest Marcelo before the big games by playing one of the best left backs in the country instead.
