Real Madrid want to buy Thibaut Courtois if De Gea does not come
Things are certainly not looking good for Chelsea fans out there. Although getting in Giroud as their winter signing, the Blue’s have lost back-to-back Premier League matches. And if that’s not it, they have conceded an astonishing 7 goals in those two whilst scoring just one.
Amid transfer speculations involving Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard, though the latter has signed a new deal with the club, the former has recently made an eye-popping statement. In an interview with Belgian magazine Sport, the former Atletico shot stopper said that his heart is still in Madrid.
“If Real is really interested, my personal situation could affect, yes. The family aspect, it is priceless. But I repeat to you that, for the moment, I’m busy talking to Chelsea to extend.”
Courtois lived in Madrid for three years between 2011 and 2014 at Atletico Madrid and his two children still live there with his ex-girlfriend, leaving him to admit he the prospect of moving back to the Spanish capital was always an attractive one.
“My personal situation is related to the city of Madrid, it’s known. My two children live there with their mum. Whenever I have the opportunity, I try to make a return trip to Spain. As a situation, it is not always easy. Yes, my heart is in Madrid. It is logical and understandable.”
Although Real Madrid are more eager to sign David de Gea from Manchester United, the frustration over United not accepting offers for the Spaniard means Real could shift focus to a more possible target in Courtois.
United are holding on to De Gea, and do not want to let him go for anything under 100 million euros. This has caused friction between the two clubs, as United are not letting him leave in spite of knowing that the Spaniard prefers a move back to Madrid.
That is where Courtois steps in.
The 25-year old has already been a part of the city and is equally well versed with La Liga. Both David de Gea and Thibaut Courtois have played for Atletico Madrid in the start of their careers.
This is a very interesting twist on one of the longest running transfer sagas in years. De Gea to Madrid looks to be in the balance right now, with both parties still undecided on whether or not they force through the transfer.
