Real Madrid have had a catastrophic season so far, as the reigning Spanish and European champions are enduring one of their worst ever seasons in La Liga.
Their last minute loss to Espanyol has now seen them fall 14 points behind Barcelona, who have one game in hand. Not only that, but Real are also behind their cross town rivals Atletico by a mammoth 10 points, and are just a point ahead of fourth placed Seville.
No matter how Real fare in the Champions League, Florentino Perez has decided to make drastic changes in the summer, with a major overhaul expected both on and off the field.

Zinedine Zidane’s job is in severe danger, as Perez looks to shake up the coaching staff at the Bernabeu. Many people inside the club believe their lack of transfer activity last summer has been a major factor in their struggles this season, with a lack of fresh faces a major issue.
Also with the likes of Marcelo, Modric, Ramos and Ronaldo himself getting on in age, Perez is determined to shake things up in the summer.
One of Real’s biggest targets is Manchester United goal keeper David De Gea.
De Gea has always longed to return to Madrid, and perfectly fits the bill of a Real Madrid Galactico. Had it not been for a faulty fax machine, David De Gea would have gone to the Bernabeu a few years back.
But he stayed and grew in stature to become the best goal keeper in the world today. De Gea has saved United on countless occasions, and has created an aura of invincibility around himself.
Real will once again go in for the Spaniard and will offer one of Rafael Varane, Gareth Bale or Toni Kroos to sweeten the deal. Varane has always been a Jose Mourinho favourite, and could certainly tempt Jose in to allowing De Gea to leave.
Bale is another star that Jose has had his eyes on for a very long time. But it is Toni Kroos’ name that has raised a few eyebrows. Kroos has been an integral part of Real Madrid’s incredible success over the last few years, and is one of the first names on the team sheet.
With the Paul Pogba’s future in doubt, Jose will in interested in bringing in Kroos, which will mean letting go of David De Gea. United have also shown some interest in Barcelona’s ter Stegen, which is a sign that they might be interested in making this deal work.
On the face of it, losing De Gea make seem like a hammer blow to Manchester United. There is no doubt that in spite of the influx of world class talent to Old Trafford ever since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, De Gea remains United’s most important player.
But with high quality players like Kroos, ter Stegen and possibly another defender coming in the summer, United fans may eventually look at this as a possible master stroke from their Portuguese manager.
Looks like Jose is brewing a masterpiece at Old Trafford.
