Royal Challengers Bangalore, one of the most liked IPL (Indian Premier League) franchises, seems to be the most proactive in terms of making changes for the next season of the IPL. RCB is one of the three (alongside Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Daredevils) IPL franchises which has played every season so far but is yet to win a title.
Perhaps, it is this urgency of registering a title which is forcing them to make these massive calls at such an early stage in their build-up to the 12th season of the IPL. Among the major announcements have been the appointment of Gary Kirsten and Ashish Nehra as Head Coach and the confirmation of AB de Villiers available for the next season.
However, an announcement which is likely to cause the biggest tremors is the one regarding their captain. In which will come down as one of the biggest announcement ahead of the next season of the IPL, it is the possibility of Virat Kohli being sacked as captain.
If reports from Karnataka Suvarna News and News18 are to be believed, AB de Villiers is all in likeliness to captain the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the next season of the IPL. It is said that this mammoth decision has been taken citing Kohli’s poor record as a captain in the tourney.
Kohli had replaced Daniel Vettori as captain of RCB back in 2013. With RCB having played six seasons under him and yet to win a title, such a decision has some brainstorming behind it. Although Kohli has been sensational with the bat, he has failed to produce results as a team, something whose blame often comes on the captains in cricket.
With de Villiers leading the side, it is likely to bring forward a fresh thought process, something which might aid RCB in changing their fortunes. Before the IPL, de Villiers is all set to take part in the PSL (Pakistan Super League) as well.
