Prithvi Shaw to debut against West Indies

Prithvi Shaw to debut against West Indies: Prithvi Shaw is all in likeliness of earning a Test cap in the first Test against West Indies.

Prithvi Shaw, India’s U-19 World Cup winning captain, looks set to don the Indian jersey one more time, albeit in the senior team now. The 18-year old right-hand batsman was first included in the squad during the tour of England.

However, with senior openers in Shikhar Dhawan and Lokesh Rahul in the side, didn’t get a game. Now when Dhawan’s chances of making into the Test side appear bleak, Shaw is the top-contender to replace him at the top of the order.

In the 14 First-class matches that Shaw has played so far, he has amassed 1,418 runs at an average of 56.72 and a strike rate of 76.69. The best facet of his batting till now has been his conversion rate. In his 21-month old First-class career, Shaw has scored seven centuries and five half-centuries, numbers which speak highly about the teenager.

Shaw, who has scored runs across formats and conditions, is someone who can become a long-term prospect for India. With India scheduled to tour Australia in November, he will be up for a significant challenge, something which he would be looking forward to.

Shaw is also a part of the ongoing practice match between Board’s President XI and West Indies. Having opened the innings with Mayank Agarwal, Shaw failed to make a mark as he got out on 8 off Shannon Gabriel.

However, his sublime form in the recent matches has seen several people advocating for him making debut for India now. Watch some of the Twitter reactions below:
