Shaw to receive maiden ODI call-up against Windies

Shaw to receive maiden ODI call-up against Windies: There are reports of Shaw being handed a maiden ODI call-up really soon.

Prithvi Shaw, who made his Test debut against Windies in the recently concluded Test series, is in likeliness of receiving his maiden ODI call-up for the ODI series against Windies starting from October 21. The squad for the first two ODIs has already been announced.

Having scored 237 runs in two Tests at an average of 118.50, Shaw was adjourned the ‘Man of the Series’ in his maiden Test series. If reports are to be believed, Shaw might well be included in the ODI team for the last three ODIs.

“With an eye to the World Cup, the main focus was how to rotate players. In fact, more than rotation, it would be more about how to save our key players. That’s why you would see the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, Mohammad Shami in and out of the squad, not playing regularly. The players who are important for all formats will be adequately taken care of. Going ahead also, these things will keep happening,” a source close to BCCI told The Indian Express.

In the recent past, Chief Selector MSK Prasad has given hints of trying out a few players ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Pertaining to the same intention, Shaw could be given a go in the last three ODIs.

Having said that, whom will Shaw replace in the ODI side will be something to consider about. In Lokesh Rahul, India already have a reserve opener in the ODI side. Whether both Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan will be rested or whether Shaw will be given a go ahead of Rahul.

If the latter happens, it is highly likely to be unfair on Rahul for he has been warming the ODI for quite sometime now.
