The latest sensation in Indian cricket, Rishabh Pant has had a stellar IPL so far. While his franchise, the Delhi Daredevils, have had a tough time in this season Pant’s performances have been a huge plus for them. So much so that many have claimed that Pant is the long term successor to Dhoni in the national team. Here is what Rishabh Pant had to say about his comparisons with Dhoni.

“I don’t think much about all the comparisons. My focus has always been playing cricket and doing well. I just need to grab the chances and prove my mettle. IPL is a brilliant platform. We have seen people gaining attention by playing in IPL,” said Pant.

“My role in the team is to score runs and give my best when on the field. It doesn’t matter at which number I am batting,” he said. “Right now, my team demands that I finish the games batting in the middle order. The T20 format is tricky, and you have to deliver whether you play in the top order or middle order.”

Pant is clearly trying to deflect all the attention that he has garnered over the past month. There have been many people who want to see Pant pushed up the order as he is one of the few in form batsmen in the side.

But Pant is not thinking too much as the 19 year old is simply trying to play and perform to the best of his abilities. He has come into this season’s IPL on the back of a brilliant domestic season which eventually handed him a T20 debut for the national side.

The future does look promising for Pant as his confident and aggressive batting style will be a huge asset to the side. It looks like he is destined for a run in the Indian team and will most likely take over from Dhoni.

Rightly or wrongly he will be tasked with the responsibility of filling in Dhoni’s massive shoes. Whether or not he manages to do so is a whole another matter all together.
