Rishabh Pant surpasses MS Dhoni in a rare feat

Rishabh Pant surpasses MS Dhoni in a rare feat: Pant has overdone the former Indian Test captain in Test cricket.

Rishabh Pant, India’s 21-year old wicket-keeper batsman, has impressed one and all in his limited international career. Having scored his maiden Test century against England at The Oval, Pant nearly scored another couple of hundreds against West Indies in the two-match series at home.

Some cricket experts might be questioning his shot selection, especially after getting out on 92 (twice) in two Test matches. For someone who is known for his big-hitting capability, you expect the same from him as getting out in such a manner is a consequence of this genre of batting.

In the five Tests that he has played for India so far, Pant has scored 346 runs at an average of 43.25 and a strike rate of 73.61. For an Indian wicket-keeper in Test matches, these are the most runs in the first five matches.

The feat was earlier under Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s belt for he had scored 297 runs at an average of 59.40 and a strike rate of 84.37 in his first five Tests. Dhoni had scored a century and a half-century in his first five matches, whereas Pant has scored a century and two half-centuries in the same span.

Pant has already started to gain approbations from cricket experts around the globe. The news of him representing India across formats in the times to come are already doing the rounds.

In which came as a progressive development, Pant was selected in India’s ODI squad for the first two ODIs against Windies. If he gets into the playing eleven for the first two ODIs, it will be interesting to watch him bat for the first time in the format.

India will take on Windies in the first ODI on October 21 at Guwahati.
