Marcelo believes that Neymar will join Real Madrid at some stage, and presence of Ronaldo can’t affect the move.
Brazilian and Real Madrid full-back Marcelo believes that his national teammate Neymar will definitely join Real Madrid. He also insisted that Ronaldo doesn’t own Real Madrid, so his presence cannot possibly dictate the move.
Earlier, Ronaldo suggested that he might leave the club, and there were reports of Ronaldo’s unhappiness at Florentino Perez. Ronaldo believes that Perez is prioritising Neymar’s move over his contract situation at the club.
Ever since Ronaldo’s post-match interview after the Champions League final, the speculations surrounding Neymar’s transfer to Real Madrid have gathered pace. Ronaldo has also been linked to clubs in France and Italy, and a possible return to Manchester United.
Marcelo, in a press-conference during his international duty with Brazil, took a bold approach over the Neymar transfer saga.
“Cristiano doesn’t own Real Madrid so if the president wants to sign somebody he will do it,” Marcelo stated.
The fullback also wants Ronaldo to stay, but insisted that Neymar’s transfer is unrelated to Ronaldo’s situation. “If Cristiano stays, does that mean that Neymar can’t come? We all want Ronaldo to stay and Neymar has our doors wide open,” said Marcelo.
“Madrid always have to find the best players and I think Neymar will play for Real Madrid one day,” believes the Brazilian.
Marcelo is a part of the 23-player Brazilian squad which will aim at world cup glory in Russia this summer.
The Brazilian also believes that Neymar has the potential to take over Cristiano Ronaldo. “To me, Ronaldo is the world’s greatest right now and I have no doubt in my mind that Neymar will be just as good,” said Marcelo.
Neymar hit 28 goals for PSG, before suffering an injury in February which ruled him out for the rest of the season. Ronaldo bagged 44 goals for Real Madrid.
