When Sindhu trumped Carolina Marin at the India Open yesterday, there was an outpour of emotion on social media, with people taking to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to shower their love on India’s very own badminton superstar.
In that sea of congratulatory messages, there was one tweet of heartfelt appreciation from another champion from the world of sport. Sachin Tendulkar wanted to show his appreciation for Sindhu’s hardwork and thus he took to Twitter to acknowledge her ‘warrior skills’.
Champion moves & a warrior instinct! A true winner all the way. @Pvsindhu1, take a bow. #SindhuvsMarin

At the tender age of 21 Sindhu has displayed a great deal of maturity on court, not once seeming baffled when down, and always looking to be positive no matter what the match situation is. She has often been pegged back by her opponents, but while some athletes lose motivation in that dark little corner of self doubt, Sindhu finds herself relishing the opportunity to bounce back when people least expect her to. And that ‘warrior’ in her makes her the player that she is today.

Also, it is sometimes very easy to get flustered when you are new in the circuit, but Sindhu has held her own and has time and again showed us how composed she is on court, no matter what the match scenario is. Such mental toughness needs to be lauded and it will only keep getting better with the amount of time that she spends on the international circuit.
Sindhu beat Marin in a very fiesty final at the Siri Fort Stadium in Delhi on Sunday, winning her first super series title at home and exteding her run of home wins to 10(She had won the Syed Modi International tournament earlier).
Pullela Gopichand would be immensely proud with the way Sindhu has evolved in the international circuit, winning the silver in Rio and then continuing her ascent with this big big win over Marin to clinch the India Open title.
