Rohit Sharma labels 4-1 series win vs New Zealand

Rohit Sharma labels 4-1 series win vs New Zealand: The legendary former Indian cricketers celebrated India’s series victory.

Building from strength to strength ahead of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, the Indian cricket team has added another major achievement in its bag. Having won an ODI series only in New Zealand before, the current team demolished the Kiwis 4-1 on this tour.

Barring their shambolic performance in the fourth ODI at Hamilton, the Indians were exceptional throughout the series, putting their best foot forward when it mattered the most.

The latest example of the same happened today when veteran India wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni ran-out New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham with a brilliant effort. Given how Neesham was racing towards the target and the bowlers unable to restrict him, Dhoni took the mantle on himself to get rid of the southpaw.

Having won the ODI series against Australia 2-1 last month, India carried forward the momentum in the best possible manner. In the eight matches which they have played this year, winning six out of them calls for idle preparation for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

One of the major highlights of the series for India was middle-order batsman Ambati Rayudu. Scoring a match-winning half-century today earned him the ‘Man of the Match’ award. Having scored 190 runs in five matches at an average of 63.33 and a strike rate of 82.25, Rayudu finished the series as its highest run-scorer.

In the bowling department, fast bowler Mohammad Shami stepped up on the occasion to win the ‘Man of the Series’ award. In four outings, Shami dismissed nine batsmen at an average of 15.33, an economy rate of 4.75 and a strike rate of 19.3.

India’s comprehensive performance saw them receiving approbation from veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and former India opening batsman Virender Sehwag. Read their tweets below:

What followed for an 8-year-old was an instant adulation for both Ganguly and the sport. The optimist in him is waiting for the day when Punjab Kings will win their maiden Indian Premier League title. When not watching cricket, he is mostly found in a cinema hall watching a Punjabi movie.
