Serie A Chief claims Premier League will declare season cancelled soon. All fixtures have currently been postponed with no word on the future of the season.
With the whole world battling coronavirus, several sporting events have come to a halt. The Premier League is no different. The season was originally called off until April 4th but was postponed to the 30th of April in a subsequent meeting.
The most recent meeting between the clubs however, saw all 20 clubs come to an agreement to push back the original return date of April 30th. However, all involved reiterated their desire and commitment to complete the season. However, a Serie A chief claims that the announcement of the cancellation of the league is all but assured.
Serie A Chief claims Premier League will declare season cancelled soon
Udinese director, Pierpaolo Marino has made the sensational claim that the Premier League will soon release a statement announcing the decision to bring the current season to an end.
Udinese is owned by the Pozzo family who also own Watford, one of the 20 Premier League clubs.
Marino told Sportitalia:
“The Belgian Federation has already sanctioned the end of their league, despite the threats of sanctions from UEFA.
“In England, the Premier League is about to release a similar statement, because the situation there is becoming very, very serious. I frankly just hope we can enjoy football again after the coronavirus.
“It doesn’t matter how long it takes; we need to get out of this danger zone. I am worried for the next seasons, not the old one.”
If the Premier League does get cancelled, it will be interesting to see how the FA deal with the fall out. Will Liverpool be named champions? Who will qualify for the Champions League and which teams get relegated?
