Shahid Afridi on MS Dhoni

Shahid Afridi on MS Dhoni: Former Pakistan captain was recently vocal about the former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman.

The recent times have witnessed plentiful opinions on former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni. While a majority of cricket fans want Dhoni to retire with immediate effect, the other half want him to continue at least till the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

Talking about his recent ODI numbers, the year 2018 has been the worst for him as a batsman. It was followed by him being dropped from the T20I squad for the recently concluded series Windies and the ongoing one against Australia.

Among the other major point of discussion is Dhoni no longer remaining the player that he once was. If a part of the audiences criticize his paltry numbers with the bat into contention, the other group constantly lays emphasis on him adding value to the team in many other ways that merely scoring runs with the bat.

There is no hiding to the fact that Dhoni adds more to the team than just the runs scored by him and that his experience can be vital for India going into the world event. Having said that, one also can’t ignore the fact that he needs to be among the runs for you can’t afford to continue with an out-of-form No. 5 wicket-keeper batsman.

Among the latest former cricketers to express their views on the 37-year old cricketer is former Pakistan captains in Ramiz Raja and Shahid Afridi. In an exclusive interview with Times Now, the Pakistani duo spoke about Dhoni’s form and how he should approach retirement from this point in his career.

“MS Dhoni would be flabbergasted as what he did for last 15 years isn’t working any more,” Raja was quoted.

On the other hand, Afridi was vocal about Dhoni’s achievements and how people should stop advising Dhoni on when to retire. “What Dhoni has done for team India nobody else can and nobody has the right to tell him when to retire. During the 2019 World Cup, Dhoni needs to be there for India to have good chances,” Afridi said.
