During the 26th match of the ongoing 12th season of the Indian Premier League between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals at Kolkata, Delhi Capitals opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan looked set to score his maiden IPL century in a match-winning effort.
Chasing a 179-run target, Dhawan made it a point to not give away his wicket tonight. Despite DC losing Prithvi Shaw (14) and captain Shreyas Iyer (6) in the powerplay, Dhawan was unperturbed by the same and continued to do the good work alongside wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant. By the end of the powerplay, Dhawan was batting on a well-made 37* (21).

On the fourth delivery of the 10th over, Dhawan hit a boundary on the off-side against KKR all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite to complete his half-century. The southpaw has to be credited for taking minimal chances throughout his innings. Dhawan was majorly seen working the ball in the gaps for boundaries, which ended up becoming the highlight of his innings.
The two left-handed Delhi batsmen stitched game-changing 105-run partnership for the third wicket. Them dominating the proceedings had turned the favour of the match on this side around the halfway stage of their innings.
In the penultimate over, DC required five runs to win and Dhawan required three runs to complete his century. However, middle-order batsman Colin Ingram hit a six to seal the chase for Capitals. Dhawan ended up scoring 97* (63) with the help of 11 fours and two sixes.

Ingram didn’t take the risk of dragging the chase till the last over, after all its DC, has a history of loosing from winning positions. #KKRvDC

Colin Ingram smashed it with the six when Dhawan needed 3 runs to register his maiden T20 century and Shikhar was the first one to applaud the winning shot…
