Sindhu will now face a familiar opponent when she faces Carolina Marin in the next round. Sindhu had beaten Marin in the India Open Super Series in New Delhi just a few weeks back. Sindhu had also famously lost to the Spanish player in the finals of the Rio Olympics last year.

Marin had qualified for the next round after she beat China’s Taipei Chia Hsin 21-7, 21-11 in the second round match. It was a comfortable victory for Marin as she closed out the match in less than half an hour.

Sindhu had previously beaten Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara 10-21, 21-15, 22-20 earlier in the tournament. Sindhu has been on a roll lately as she reached a career best ranking of Number 2 just last week.

But she fell a few places down today to 5th. It should not worry Sindhu though as she knows that a couple of wins can change everything.
