Smith century: Twitter reactions on Steve Smith's 10th ODI century vs India at SCG

Steve Smith century: The Australian batsman scored the third-fastest ODI century by an Australian batsman in Sydney.

During the first ODI of the ongoing India’s tour of Australia in Sydney, Australia batsman Steven Smith put on display an emphatic display of batting which saw him scoring his 10th ODI century against a lackluster Indian bowling attack.

Coming in to bat at No. 3 in the 28th over after the dismissal of opening batsman David Warner (69), there were doubts around Smith’s batting position for fans and experts had expressed the need for a hard-hitting batsman.

Putting all doubts to rest, Smith took the onus accumulating runs swiftly upon himself to the extent that Australia captain Aaron Finch appeared to be in the 90s for a long time. It was at the same time when Smith had first portrayed signs of finding gaps at will against both the Indian pacers and spinners.

Having hit three fours off Ravindra Jadeja in the 37th over, Smith hit another two off Mohammed Shami in the following over. It was in the same over that Smith had completed a 36-ball half-century.

Finch (114), who completed his 17th ODI century in the next over, saw him century getting overshadowed by Smith’s heroics who scored another four and six in the same over.

With Finch getting out in the 40th over, Smith and Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell (45) put together a brisk 59-run stand for the fourth wicket.

It was on the second delivery of the penultimate over when Smith hit a four and ran a single to bring up his century. Having got out in the last over, Smith departed after scoring 105 (66) with the help of 11 fours and six sixes.
