Sourav Ganguly Press Conference: Watch BCCI President talks about MS Dhoni's future

Sourav Ganguly Press Conference: The newly-elected BCCI President opened up on talking with the legendary wicket-keeper batsman.

Interacting with the media for the first time after taking charge as BCCI President in Mumbai, former India captain Sourav Ganguly gave the impression of not wasting time and focusing on the tasks in hand. Speaking from the BCCI’s headquarters in Mumbai, Ganguly laid emphasis on “doing what’s best for Indian cricket”.

“Things need to be brought back in place, reforms need to be done, huge amounts of money need to be paid to state associations.

“We don’t know what’s happened in the past three years, we weren’t part of it [BCCI], there were no AGMs or working committee meetings. We’ll take note of everything and do what’s best for Indian cricket,” Ganguly was quoted as saying.

As expected, a lot of prominence is being given on Ganguly’s imminent discussion with former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni. While Ganguly didn’t pass any judgement on Dhoni’s future as an international cricketer, he ruled out anyone getting disrespected under him.

“It depends on him [MS Dhoni]. I’ve always said when I was left out, when the entire world said he’ll never make it [again], I believed in myself and came back and played for four [international cricket for two] years. Champions don’t finish very quickly.

“I don’t know what’s in his mind, what he thinks about his career. We’ll deal with that. He’s one of the greats of the game. India is very proud to have MS Dhoni. Even you sit down and take note of what he’s done, you say ‘Wow! MS Dhoni’. Till I’m around, everybody will be respected,” Ganguly added.

What followed for an 8-year-old was an instant adulation for both Ganguly and the sport. The optimist in him is waiting for the day when Punjab Kings will win their maiden Indian Premier League title. When not watching cricket, he is mostly found in a cinema hall watching a Punjabi movie.
