Southampton 1-2 Liverpool: 4 talking points after Liverpool defeats Southampton

Southampton 1-2 Liverpool: 4 talking points after Liverpool thrashes Southampton on the second game-week of the Premier League season.

Southampton faced Liverpool in tonight’s match and faced a defeat at the hands of the Reds, even though they played at home. Early in the match, the Saints dominated the game but failed to convert the chances.

They did not even press to take advantage of unfit Adrian, except for once, but it was too late by then. On the other hand, Liverpool took advantage of the erroneous defence of Southampton.

Additionally, it was Sadio Mane, as through his effective game-play Liverpool managed to earn three points. The Reds’ midfield was a concern but somehow, Liverpool defence recovered from the failures of midfield.

Mohamed Salah, on the other hand, had an underwhelming game, and is struggling in the race for the golden boot, but it is no doubt that the Egyptian International will bounce back in the pursuit of the trophy.

Nevertheless, Jurgen Klopp’s side was able to fetch three points, and are high on confidence, as they aim to win the Premier League this season, as the Reds have not won one since decades.

With this, we discuss 4 talking points after Liverpool defeated Southampton by 1-2 at the St.Mary’s ground.

#1 Sadio Mane man of the match performance

Southampton 1-2 Liverpool

Sadio Mane gave a phenomenal performance against his former club Southampton, as he was involved in the conversion of both the goals. The Senegalese International scored the first goal of the match and later provided the assist to Roberto Firmino’s goal.

Mane has lately been in a top form, as his performance against Chelsea made the Reds win the Super Cup title this week. Continuing his form, Mane has helped Liverpool to register another win against Southampton.

With this, it is certain that Mane will be able to present his case in the team of the week, with such an amazing performance against his former club.

#2 Adrian’s blunders

Southampton 1-2 Liverpool

It was reported that Adrian is not fully fit after a fan hurt him during UEFA Super Cup celebrations, yet Jurgen Klopp decided to play him instead of opting the third-choice goalkeeper.

Since the start, Adrian was looking nervous on the ball, whenever he was being given a back-pass. In the first half, he received a pass from Virgil Van Dijk but he hit the ball on the opposition player whilst clearing it away.

Later, the unfortunate happened, when in the final phase of the game, Adrian once again received a pass and in nervousness, he misplaced the ball and Liverpool conceded the goal. It was certain that the Spanish goalkeeper was not confident with the injury.

#3 On the line of the box goals

Liverpool scored two goals in the match but both of them were scored from on the line and in a similar fashion. One goal was when James Milner passed the ball to Sadio Mane, and he dribbled past and shot it inside while standing on the line of the 18-yard-box.

Later in the second half, Mane gave a pass to Roberto Firmino and he shot the ball inside the net, while again standing on the line of the penalty area.

The co-incidence of it is quite surprising and funny, as two goals in a similar fashion and from the same area in the same match are rare to see.

The two goals by both the players helped Liverpool win the second successive game, as they vie to win the title this summer.

#4 Mohamed Salah disappointed many in the Fantasy Premier League

Southampton 1-2 LiverpoolFantasy Premier League is trending with millions of fans, participating in the game, especially during the beginning of the season. It is no brainer that Mohamed Salah is heavily picked by the fans.

Additionally, the Egyptian International was also chosen as the captain of the Fantasy Premier League hoping that he will fetch him massive points.

Along with Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are also known for their attacking prowess. However, they aren’t intensively picked as Salah has been chosen.

But today both Mane and Firmino scored giving them higher points in the FPL. On the other side, Salah, who failed to make a significant impact tonight, disappointed the fans, who trusted him to fetch points.
