Spanish 4th division club officially change their name to Flat Earth FC. Club president says the club is united by an Idea.
Football is a beautiful game that has witnessed several oddities in its existence. However, in an unprecedented act of peculiarity, a Spanish 4th division club, formerly known as Mostoles Balompie, have officially changed their name to Flat Earth FC.

Club President, Javi Poves made the rather bizarre decision soon after the team won their promotion to the 4th division. The Club, who have only 65 followers on Twitter at the time of writing, has reflected the name change on their social media as well.
United by an idea
Explaining the thought behind the move, Poves said:
“We are a professional football club in the Spanish fourth tier and we are born to unite the voices of millions of flat earth movement followers and all those people who are looking for answers.”

“Football is the most popular sport and has the most impact worldwide. So creating a club dedicated to the flat earth movement is the best way to have a constant presence in the media” he continued.
“This will also be the first football club associated with a cause and an idea, without having a specific location. Professional football clubs are subject not only to a nation, but also to a city. Flat Earth FC is the first football club whose followers are united by the most important thing, which is an idea.”

The members of Flat Earth Society promote the idea that earth is flat and not spherical in shape. They believe the idea that the world is round is a conspiracy orchestrated by NASA and other government agencies.
The society also has a website that acts as a forum for their members to discuss and share their thoughts with each other.
