Kings XI Punjab captain Ravichandran Ashwin mankading Rajasthan Royals wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler has become the highlight of Royals’ first match of Indian Premier League franchise 2019.
Rajasthan Royals, the first team to win an IPL title, will be looking to put that behind and focus on registering their first win when they Sunrisers Hyderabad tomorrow in Hyderabad.
If Rajasthan address those issues tonight and not commit any new errors, they will have more chances of registering their first win in IPL 2019.
RR Predicted Playing 11 vs SRH
Top-order
The opening pair of captain Ajinkya Rahane and Buttler have it in them to complement each other at the top of the order. While Rahane plays in his archetype role of anchoring the innings, the latter usually takes on the opposition bowlers from the word go.
Given his potential, his numbers in IPL 2019 and how he was recently eulogized by RR mentor Shane Warne, batsman Sanju Samson would be looking to play a pivotal role in Royals’s batting lineup.
Middle-order
Chasing 185 runs against Kings XI, Royals fell apart from 108-1 to 164-9. In 39 balls which decided the fate of the match, RR scored 56 runs and lost as many as eight wickets. With such a support from the middle-order, it will doubtlessly become difficult for Royals’ top-order batsmen to chase any total.
Their overseas middle-order batsmen in Steven Smith and Ben Stokes will have to step up immediately to supplement the start provided by their top-order batsmen.
Considering the reputation and record which Smith and Stokes bring along with them, it is imperative for at least one of them to stand tall on those expectations chiefly against a bowling attack of Sunrisers’ quality.
Bowlers
Other than a middle-order collapse, Rajasthan’s premier bowlers in Jaydev Unadkat and Stokes conceding 92 runs in seven overs against KXIP were majorly responsible behind them losing to Punjab in Jaipur. Just like “Stokes – The Batsman”, “Stokes – The Bowler” will also has to step up. While it might sound like asking too much from him, that’s a ramification of being an all-rounder.
Unadkat, who was bought for INR 8.4 crore by Rajasthan, will have to justify his price tag more than anything. As a left-hand pacer, Unadkat has it in him to add variance to Royals’ bowling unit.
In Jofra Archer, Dhawan Kulkarni and Krishnappa Gowtham, RR have bowlers who displayed form and rhythm in their first match. The team management would be hoping for them to continue performing in the manner in which they did against Punjab.
RR Predicted Playing 11 vs SRH – 1) Ajinkya Rahane (c), 2) Jos Buttler (wk) 3) Sanju Samson 4) Steven Smith 5) Ben Stokes 6) Rahul Tripathi 7) Krishnappa Gowtham 8) Shreyas Gopal 9) Jofra Archer 10) Dhawal Kulkarni 11) Jaydev Unadkat
