Stepehen Fleming on Raina's replacement

Suresh Raina has been ruled out of the IPL for 10 days, following a calf strain that he suffered during CSK’s win.

His rehabilitation process should take about 10 days and thus he is almost certain to miss the next 2 CSK games.

CSK have had a bright start to their 2018 campaign but they will have been severely jolted by the injury to Raina and the fact that they have forced to relocate from Chennai because of political issues.

Pune has been chosen as the new venue keeping in mind that CSK’s think tank played(and coached) RPSG last time round.

Stepehen Fleming spoke to the media regarding Raina’s injury and how it would be difficult to replace someone who is the highest run scorer in the history of the competition. CSK would be looking to minimise the damage caused by his loss.

“We can’t replace him (Raina), he’s one of the best performing players in the IPL and the highest run-scorer in the history (of the league). So we can’t replace him, we just got to find a way to minimize his loss. We’ve got good players in our set-up – Dhruv Shorey, Murali Vijay who’s played here last year. So there are guys here with points to prove, with international experience, and if they get the chance they’ll do their best what Suresh Raina can do,” said Fleming, as quoted by CricBuzz.

Fleming was of the thought that anyone who gets an opportunity in place of Raina at this stage has a wonderful chance of making a mark in the IPL.

CSK would hope that anyone who comes in, Vijay, Shorey or Faf du Plesssis takes full advantage of this opportunity.

“This is) an opportunity for someone else but you’d like to get someone like Suresh Raina back into your side as quick as possible. The blessing is we’ve got another four days in between and there might be a chance that he could be fit for the next game but we won’t rush him.” Fleming concluded.

CSK take on Kings XI Punjab in Mohali today!
