With just a few days to go before their opening match, team India should be wrapping up their preparations for the Champions Trophy. Every member of the dressing room should be pulling in the same direction, as they seek to become the first team to defend the coveted trophy. At least this was the plan! But things have not gone according to script, as reports of a power struggle within the dressing room have been leaked to the media. And now, batting legend, Sunil Gavaskar weighs in on the Kohli-Kumble controversy.

According to reliable sources, Kohli and Kumble had a spat regarding the inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav in the team for the Champions trophy. This has come after a series of reports that claim that many members of the team are unhappy with Kumble’s coaching methods. Kumble’s authoritarian style has not gone down too well with the team either.
Yesterday, a sensational report claimed that Kumble had leaked sensitive team information to his media friends on WhatsApp.
And now, former India skipper, Sunil Gavaskar has given his thoughts about the apparent bust up.
“You will never have situation, where a captain and a coach will always be on the same page. It cannot happen because the coach is invariably somebody who has played in an earlier generation, so their attitude will always be slightly different,” Gavaskar said at the Aaj Tak Salaam Cricket 2017.

“I don’t think this should be taken seriously, this kind of discussion is in fact healthy. Coach should be somebody who is good for Indian cricket. He should have a vision for Indian cricket which would carry Indian cricket forward for the next 8 to 10 years,” Gavaskar said.
“It is hard for me to say how it should be resolved. I hope better sense prevails because nobody is bigger than the game and I think Indian cricket has got to be No 1 priority. We can all differ on how that but as long as our heart beats for Indian cricket, I think we should encourage,” the little master said.
