Tamim Iqbal: Watch Bangladesh batsman defends wild throw from Lungi Ngidi in South Africa vs Bangladesh 2019 World Cup match

Bangladesh batsman defends wild throw from Lungi Ngidi: Tamim Iqbal was at the receiving end of an uncalled for throw for Lungi Ngidi.

During the fifth match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between South Africa and Bangladesh at The Oval, South Africa fast bowler Lungi Ngidi hurled a wild throw to Bangladesh opening batsman Tamim Iqbal.

It all happened on the penultimate delivery of the seventh over when Iqbal played a straight delivery back to Ngidi. In a futile attempt to run-out the batsman, Ngidi fired a throw which ended up being targeted at Iqbal’s body.

In a bid to protest himself from getting hit, Iqbal stopped the ball with his bat before expressing shock at the bowler’s reaction for he never went out of the crease. Having got hit for a couple of boundaries off Soumya Sarkar in the same over, perhaps Ngidi couldn’t control his disappointment.

What came as a positive sign was that Ngidi’s action wasn’t fueled by any player of either team and that the match continued in its usual manner.

After South Africa captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and put Bangladesh in to bat, Bangladeshi openers stitched a brisk 60-run opening stand. It was first-change bowler Andile Phehlukwayo who sent back Iqbal (16) in the ninth over to make first inroad into Bangladesh’s batting lineup.

With Sarkar getting out to South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris for a well-played 42 (30) with the help of nine fours in the 12th over, Bangladesh now requires its senior duo of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim to bat together for a long period of time.
